Keep a small phrase card or offline translator ready because rural guesthouses and family-run sidrerías often have no English signage.
Use 'Kaixo' to greet drivers and 'Eskerrik asko' (thank you) when paying. For buses: ask '¿A qué hora sale el próximo autobús a Tolosa?' (What time is the next bus to Tolosa?). Tolosa station is the nearest train link. Rural taxis must be booked by phone; '¿Puede llamarme un taxi?' works. Keep small euro coins for the Lurraldebus fare box if no card reader.
