The region harbors a variety of mammal species including the bear monkey, Trachypithecus vetulus monticola, (a subspecies of purple-faced langur) and the critically endangered [possibly extinct] Horton Plains slender loris, Loris tardigradus nycticeboides, (a subspecies of red slender loris).
