Base yourself in or near the town center for the cheapest combination of transport links, market food, and walking access to the Chulym embankment. Uzhur's compact layout means a homestay or rented flat puts the railway station, Central Market, and Victory Park within a short walk, so you can skip taxi costs almost entirely. Plan around the June–August window — outside summer, heating, transport cancellations, and clothing layers quietly inflate what looks like a cheap trip.
Spend on food and local experiences rather than tours: there are almost no paid attractions in Uzhur itself, so your daily budget is shaped mostly by where you sleep and how you eat. Buy pelmeni, smoked fish, and seasonal berries at the Central Market and in private kitchens; reserve cash for the occasional taxi to remote fishing spots or a guesthouse meal. The biggest money leaks are improvised taxis, last-minute accommodation, and winter gear bought on arrival instead of in Krasnoyarsk.
