Apizaco at a Glance
Apizaco is a municipality and city located in the northeastern part of the state of Tlaxcala, Mexico. The city sits at an altitude of about 2,400 meters above sea level in the Valley of Apizaco, surrounded by mountains including the iconic Volcán La Malinche (Malinche volcano) to the northwest. The city developed as an important railway junction during the Porfiriato (late 19th century) and became known for its textile industry. Today, Apizaco serves as a gateway for visitors exploring the natural and cultural attractions of Tlaxcala state. The historic center features colonial-era architecture, churches, and traditional markets. The city maintains its small-town character with local crafts, traditional foods, and community-oriented culture. Nearby, the La Malinche National Park offers hiking trails and outdoor activities, while the state capital of Tlaxcala city and the archaeological site of Cacaxtla are accessible day trip destinations.
